Sister In Law IN ITALY!! - first hand account (great read!)

Image
Hi Everyone....hope you all are having a good start to our 3rd week at home. Crazy to think that my kids have been home 3 weeks now and Phil has been here 1 month!! What I don't want to do is lose track of time, which can be very easy to do! I want to be present and conscious during this time! Something that has been very close to my heart is my sister in law Jenny who lives in Northern Italy. She has been going through this very difficult time for almost close to two months now. She is newly engaged to her fiance Giuseppe.  She has definitely had a very intense experience; as her family far away here in California, we of course worry, but we are also so grateful to the love of her life Giuseppe who has been with her every step of the way, and they are together, happy and healthy!!! We also know that together they will come out the other side of this dark tunnel together and ready to plan and celebrate a wedding! My sister in law Jenny is a writer and I knew she would be able ...

Good Morning Bread.......

Image
Happy Saturday Morning...... Fresh baked bread for the family this morning! I mixed it up last night and let it rise overnight. It is a super easy recipe, you just mix it up, rise for 8 hours, cook and eat!! My vulture children are literally standing in the kitchen trying to eat it hot out of the oven! I made mine without the nuts and flaxseed mixed it (because I don't have any).....no matter, tastes just as good! Try it out! Enjoy! Val https://houseandhome.com/recipe/donna-hays-no-knead-seeded-morning-bread/ Once you mix in all the ingredients....the dough should be moist but not wet and it should all come together in the bowl and make a rough ball. Drop it onto a floured counter and make it into a more round ball. Put that ball into a floured bowl to let rise at least 8 hours. I made mine last night and let rise overnight to bake the in AM.  (if dough feels a bit wet, just add more flour) This AM I took the dough in the bowl and dropped it again onto my flour...

Crocheting like a quarantined woman!

Image
Did you know I crochet?   It all started back when I was young and my Chilean Grandmother Marta Bianchi would come to our house for visits that would last months. She had lots of talents and hobbies. She painted, she knitted, she played cards. She was a wonderful woman. And I remember being young making yarn balls for her; I would hold the yard while she knitted sweaters. She taught me how to knit and I was so excited to sit there next to her and be just like her.  Then life and school and sports happened and I never picked up needles again. Till sometime in my 20's my older sister Laura showed me again how to knit. I was so frustrated with knitting because I could never fix my mistakes. So all the things I made always looked good but had holes or missing spots.  Then when I was pregnant with the twins and was pretty much not moving very much my sister taught me to crochet and I loved it. I loved the muscle memory of it because once you learned the stitch...

Corona what..........

Image
In college being able to afford a Corona over a Keystone Light beer was an exciting evening. Now I am hearing the word Corona every day and the first image that pops into my head is an ice-cold Corona bottle and a beach scene - definitely NOT a virus! Who named this thing anyways? I could look that up, but why bother! I guess during this crazy time we are getting to experience in history, the momentary first thoughts of beer and beach is something I should hold onto. There are movies about this kind of thing happening in the world. I would have never in all my life would have every thought that the world as a whole would be experiencing the same thing all together all at the same time. The only other thing that I can think of that the whole world sort of collectively experiences is the Olympic Games. I admit, I live in a tiny bubble where my daily thoughts revolve around my jam packed schedule of school, homework, sports, health, husband, work, grandparents and ex...
