Thassos Island is located directly across from Kavala (mainland).....pretty much from any location in Kavala, if you look towards the sea you will see Thassos. It's not a huge island. You can drive around the whole island in about 2-3 hours. The kids love Thassos partly because who doesn't love "an island", they love the shallow waters (Golden Beach is extremely shallow), and they love adventures. When my sister Laura was here, I took her and the kids for the day. We drove around the island, made stops along the way, and had a great adventure. So when I asked them what they wanted to do with one week left here in Greece they unanimously told me......THASSOS!! So I decided to take them for an overnight adventure to Thassos. The month of August is very busy with tourist. This week with the most important Greek holiday coming up is EXTREMELY busy.....but I was able to find a great hotel for our overnight adventure....blocks from the beach, walking distance to the beac...

Sarakina Beach   When we need to get out of town and away from the crowds of the Sunday beach goers, we head about 45 minutes out of town to Sarakina!!!! A gorgeous, quiet area, it has the pristine waters and the peace and quiet we are looking for on weekends!! Not to mention on the beach they have the best casual fish tavern that cooks up the fresh fish caught by restaurant owner in his little blue boat (see pictures).....better not fall asleep at lunch time because the tables are few and the fish goes quick. He grills up on his small charcoal grill what he caught for the day and you get what's available - which is perfection! The prices are higher but when you have eaten fresh fish like this, money is no matter!!! We love this place and the kids love it also! Occasionally we'll get small waves here, we're talking maybe 1 foot rolling waves......small, baby style, but it makes it fun for kids!   Enjoy the pics! We love Sarakina!!   Sarakina Beac...

As our days are counting down, I am going to share with you the reason we come to this lovely place..............crystal clear blue warm waters and an atmosphere of relaxation and calm. Many people ask me about all the political and economically disruptions and difficulties in Greece, and yes all that does exist, however in our small little oasis called Kavala we are in our own little bubble of wonderfulness!!!!!!!!!!!! Riva Beach Club and Bar Here is a list of the main reasons we love this beach Crystal clear waters that are shallow Small kids play swimming pool Best wooden platforms and lounge beds in Kavala This beach is in a beach area called Ammolofoi. It is a stretch of wonderful, crystal blue water, shallow beaches about 30 minutes from Kavala. We head to this area about 4 days per week and frequent the many beach clubs in this area. For me going to the beach in Greece is called Civilized Beach going......you have bathrooms, showers, changing rooms, cafe/bar and...
